25 Years Of... Being Freely Open To All

Visitor Information

We look forward to welcoming visitors to the National Memorial Arboretum this Easter holiday. Please be aware that planned improvement works on the A38 at Lichfield, in place from 27 March to 8 April, may affect some visitor road travel. The Arboretum will remain open daily as normal, from 10am – 5pm, and signposted diversion routes will remain in place to support journeys impacted.

Much has changed since the National Memorial Arboretum’s official opening in 2001, but our purpose remains the same; To be the Nation’s year-round place to remember, an inspirational, world-class setting freely open to all.

It is important to us that entry to the Arboretum, a registered UK charity, remains free-to-enter for all who wish to visit our grounds.

A daily parking charge for cars, motorcycles, and scooters applies throughout the year, and all funds raised through this go directly to supporting our work.

Public Transport

In 2025 the Arboretum worked with local partners to start a new bus service, funded by Staffordshire County Council and operated by Diamond Bus East Midlands.

The first bus, liveried in images of the Arboretum’s gardens and memorials, arrived at the Arboretum at 11am on 14 March 2025 with representatives from the Arboretum, Staffordshire County Council, Diamond Bus East Midlands, and Visit Staffordshire gathering to celebrate its launch.

Accessibility

We aim to cater for the needs of all our visitors and try to accommodate all access requirements where possible, from the hire of mobility scooters and hearing loops to sensory backpacks and much more.

Groups

Each year we welcome over 25,000 group visitors, from UK wide coach trips to family and friends gatherings. With bespoke talks, tours, exclusive groups events and discounted tickets to some of our largest events, over the years our experienced groups team have developed something for all interests.

Since 2016, we have also developed a team of expert volunteers who travel to groups who cannot visit the Arboretum themselves, delivering talks on our history, grounds and future. They deliver on average 35 external talks each year.

"Having never been before I was a bit unsure of what to expect. However, from the moment we arrived and the welcome we received I knew it was going to be something else. Would I recommend this as a place to visit? Most definitely yes as we had such a wonderful time there. Thank you all again for the truly amazing experience."

Four-Legged Explorers

Between 2016 and 2020 the Arboretum was host to Paws for Remembrance, a self-guided dog walk where four-legged friends and their owners could come together and experience the Arboretum grounds, stalls from local suppliers and a team from PDSA who were on hand to answer pet related queries, as well providing free dog health checks.

Since 2020, our grounds have been open to dogs on short leads, meaning visitors with dogs can explore the areas previously only access during Paws for Remembrance, every day.
