VE Day Street Party at Cherry Tree Road

Gallery Two | 3 May - 16 November

In this immersive exhibition visitors will travel back in time to 8 May 1945 where Mr and Mrs Ball, and the other residents of Cherry Tree Road, are getting ready to celebrate together on VE Day.

The bunting is up and the table has been set for their party which is reflective of a typical VE Day celebration held in the UK in 1945.

Whilst VE Day was a joyous occasion for many, for others, the arrival of VE Day was bittersweet. Real life memories, along with interesting facts are used throughout the exhibition to paint a vivid picture of the mixed emotions experienced at the time.

VE Day Street Party at Cherry Tree Road forms part of the Arboretum’s The Year Was 1945 programme, a series of exhibitions, events, services, talks and tours that mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War.
