Armed Forces Memorial
On Sunday 14 December the Armed Forces Memorial will be closed to all visitors from 11am - 12pm and 3pm - 4pm for the Royal British Legion’s Remembering Operations in Bosnia event.

On Sunday 14 December, the Royal British Legion will remember the 30th anniversary of the end of the Bosnian War, and the crucial contribution of British Armed Forces in the international efforts to secure and maintain peace.

A Ceremony of Remembrance will be held on the Armed Forces Memorial to remember the lives lost in the war in Bosnia, and the extraordinary service and sacrifices of the men and women who served with the British Armed Forces in the UN and NATO missions in Bosnia since 1992.

Access to the Ceremony of Remembrance is strictly by ticket only. Registration for this event is now closed.

Booking in Advance

How do I know if my application has been successful?

Registration has now closed, and the Royal British Legion are no longer accepting applications. If you were successful in your application for Ceremony tickets, you will have been contacted by the Royal British Legion directly with further instructions on next steps.

How many guests can I register to attend the ceremony?

Individuals who have been successful in their application for tickets have been contacted directly by the Royal British Legion with next steps, including further information on how to RSVP and register accompanying guests. You will be permitted to attend the ceremony with one additional guest.

 

Guests will be required to present an e-ticket on the day of the ceremony. Please note that guest names cannot be changed once confirmed. 

When will I receive my e-ticket?

E-tickets and joining instructions will be emailed to guests from 4 December 2025, directly from the Royal British Legion.

Can I use my submission confirmation email as an e-ticket?

All attendees will be required to present a valid e-ticket on the day to attend the private ceremony on the Armed Forces Memorial.

If you cannot find your e-ticket, please email remembranceevents@britishlegion.org.uk, indicating the lead name under which your booking was made, and the Royal British Legion's team will aim to resend your e-ticket. Queries that arrive outside of their office hours will be picked up the next working day. 

I have lost my e-ticket, is it possible to receive this again?

If you cannot find your e-ticket, please email remembranceevents@britishlegion.org.uk, indicating the lead name under which your booking was made, and the Royal British Legion's team will aim to resend your e-ticket.

I don't have a printer, can I show my e-tickets on my phone?
No you do not need to print your Ceremony e-ticket(s). Please ensure you can present a digital copy of your e-ticket(s) upon arrival at the Arboretum, when requested.

Eligibility

Who will be eligible to attend the ceremony?

Those who served in Bosnia and Herzegovina are invited to attend, including former and current members of the Armed Forces, and their families.

I am a family member of a person who passed away after his/her Bosnia and Herzegovina deployment. May I attend?

The Royal British Legion welcomes bereaved families whose loved one served in Bosnia, whether they passed away while in service or in the time since.

On The Day

Do ticket holders need to bring anything with them on the day?

You will be asked to present your e-ticket either in a digital or printed format, and each ticket holder in your party should be able to produce photographic identification at the registration desk should this be requested. This can include a passport, driving license, EU identity card, Armed Forces identity card or firearms certificate.

 

Failure to present suitable photographic identification could result in the prevention of entry to the service area.

 

Please note that random bag searches maybe carried out by the Police and or contracted security services and only small handbags will be permitted to the service area.

What time will the National Memorial Arboretum open on Sunday 14 December?

The National Memorial Arboretum will open at 10am and closes daily at 4pm. Guests are welcome to arrive from 10am, light refreshments will be available from 2pm in Aspects. 

The service will start at 3.30pm and will last for around 40 minutes. 

Only registered attendees will be able to remain onsite after closing at 4pm.

What is the dress code for the event?

The dress code for the event is the following for Serving Military personnel:

RN - No 1B

RM - No1B (Lovat)

Army - No2 Dress with leather and medals

RAF - No 1 SD with medals, less swords

 

For Civilian and Veterans: Day Dress / Lounge Suit (incl. medals), hats may be worn.

Will parking be included for this event?

Individuals who were successful in their application for Ceremony tickets will be sent a parking pass for use on Sunday 14 December, along with their e-ticket(s). 

Please show your pass (digitally or printed) to the parking attendants at the car park.

Where will I be parked?
Please follow the instructions of the parking attendants on duty at the Arboretum, who will direct you to an appropriate parking space.
I have a blue badge where will I be required to park?

If you require an accessible space, please indicate this within the ‘portal’ when you confirm your attendance, as directed by the Royal British Legion.

As part of your confirmation, you will receive a dedicated parking pass. Please show this to the attendants at the car park. A pick-up/ drop-off point is also available close to the entrance.

Please follow the instructions of the Arboretum parking attendants on duty. 

Can I book a mobility scooter or wheelchair?

Please let the Royal British Legion know your accessibility requirements when completing your RSVP to the event.

The Arboretum has a limited number of motorised scooters (£10) which can be booked by calling 01283 245 100.

Please note, mobility scooter use is restricted to aged 14 years and over.

Are dogs permitted to attend the Ceremony on the Armed Forces Memorial?

Only working assistance dogs will be permitted onto the Armed Forces Memorial, into the event area and Aspects.

The National Memorial Arboretum aims to cater to the needs of all visitors and will try to accommodate all access requirements where possible. Please visit our accessibility page for further information.

Will the Ceremony go ahead in inclement weather?
The Remembering Bosnia Ceremony will take place in the event of inclement weather.  The service will be held outside on Armed Forces Memorial, so please ensure you dress appropriately for the weather conditions expected.  

 A small handbag sized umbrella will be permitted at the event; however large golf umbrellas cannot be used.  
Can I purchase a wreath and floral tribute to lay during the service?

Wreaths and individual tokens of Remembrance, such as fresh flowers or poppy tributes, may be laid after the short ceremony. 

Poppy tributes are available to purchase within the Remembrance Centre.

If you would like to order a wreath, at a cost of £20 (plain) or £23.50 (personalised) please call 01283 245 100. Wreaths will be made available for collection on the day of the event.

Will I be able to bring my standard to parade during the ceremony?
We will not be inviting any standards to be part of this private ceremony.
